Species Identification

Species identification and pest organism origin analysis to design effective strategies. Fucesa offers specialized diagnostics in Toluca, Mexico City, and Querétaro.

Species identification is the first and most decisive step of any serious pest management program. Knowing exactly which organism is present —its species, biology and behavior— makes it possible to design specific treatments, avoid unnecessary product applications, and solve the problem at its source rather than fighting symptoms. At Fucesa we provide expert scientific identification of pest species, backed by our own entomological laboratory and more than 40 years of field experience in central Mexico.

This service is aimed at industries with high sanitary and quality standards: food and beverage plants, warehouses and distribution centers, hospitals and laboratories, exporters, and any organization that needs to technically justify its control decisions before audits, clients or authorities. An accurate identification reduces risk, optimizes cost, and minimizes environmental impact by applying only what is truly required.

What the service covers

Our identification service spans the full analytical cycle, from sample intake to delivery of a technical report with management recommendations:

  • Morphological and entomological analysis of adults, larvae, nymphs and remains (molts, fragments, droppings).
  • Taxonomic determination to genus or species level whenever the sample allows.
  • Assessment of biological behavior: habits, life cycle, and the food and harborage sources associated with the species.
  • A written technical report stating the identification, risk level, and specific control recommendations.
  • Advisory support to integrate the result into your Integrated Pest Management program and audit documentation.

What we analyze in the laboratory

We operate our own entomological laboratory, which lets us handle samples that other providers must outsource. Groups we frequently identify include:

  • Crawling insects: cockroaches, ants, stored-product beetles and bed bugs.
  • Flying insects: flies, mosquitoes and moths, including grain and flour pests.
  • Stored-product pests that compromise raw materials, grains and packaging.
  • Evidence of activity: remains, molts and droppings that confirm a pest's presence even without capturing the live organism.

How we work

Identification is embedded within our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methodology, an approach that prioritizes understanding the organism before applying any chemical. The process follows four stages:

  • Inspection and collection: we gather representative samples on site or receive those the client sends, documenting their origin.
  • Laboratory diagnosis: morphological analysis under microscope and comparison against taxonomic keys.
  • Management plan: we translate the result into control recommendations targeted at the identified species.
  • Follow-up: we verify effectiveness and adjust the program as activity evolves.
