Pest control for Exports

Pest control and fumigation for exports: inspection, ISPM-15 wood-packaging treatment and cargo fumigation so your merchandise isn't held at customs.

Exporting goods means meeting the phytosanitary requirements of the destination country, and pests are one of the main reasons cargo is rejected at customs. Wood packaging —pallets, crates and dunnage— and the merchandise itself can carry insects that other countries watch closely. Serious pest control for exports combines inspection, packaging treatment under ISPM-15 and fumigation of the cargo, so the product reaches its destination without delays, rejections or re-treatment costs.

Pests that put an export at risk

In foreign trade the main concern is wood-associated and stored-product pests, plus those that travel as "hitchhikers" on the cargo:

  • Wood borers and bark beetles living in pallets and untreated wood packaging.
  • Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium), one of the most closely watched grain and seed pests in the world.
  • Stored-product insects —weevils and moths— in food, grain and seeds for export.
  • Hitchhiker pests such as ants, snails, spiders and egg masses stuck to containers and merchandise.

Risks to the operation

A pest found at the destination can halt an entire export: the shipment is held, the cargo is ordered fumigated or destroyed at the exporter's expense, or the whole container is returned. Add fines, breached contracts, loss of perishable goods, and damage to the company's phytosanitary credibility with the buyer. Wood packaging without the required mark is grounds for rejection even when the merchandise itself is clean.

Standards and certification

Wood packaging for export must comply with ISPM-15 (NIMF-15), which requires heat treatment (HT) or fumigation and the international mark recognized by the IPPC. In Mexico, export requirements and the international phytosanitary certificate are regulated by SENASICA. We work with COFEPRIS-registered products, apply NOM-256-SSA1-2012, and provide the documentation and evidence that buyers and authorities require; when cargo needs official certification, we coordinate treatment under the applicable standard.

How we work

We use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) applied to the export chain. We inspect merchandise, packaging and containers before shipping, perform cargo and container fumigation when required, and recommend wood-packaging treatment under ISPM-15. Every intervention is documented with records and traceability, ready for your client and the authorities.
