- On the pet: heavy scratching, patchy hair loss, adults visible when you comb the back and base of the tail.
- White-sock test: walk carpets and sofas in light socks; tiny dark moving dots may appear.
- Flea dirt: black pepper-like specks in the pet bed; on a damp paper towel they can smear reddish-brown (digested blood).
If you only see bites and no insects, other arthropods may be involved—avoid blind spraying.
