Pest control for Gardens
A garden is a place to enjoy, but it is also a living ecosystem where water, plants and shade attract a wide variety of pests. Unlike an indoor space, control here cannot be indiscriminate: the goal is to reduce the pests that affect people and plants without harming pollinators or the balance of the environment. That is why garden pest control demands technical judgment, knowledge of the species involved and a management style that respects the life we want to preserve.
Pests and challenges in gardens
A garden brings together stinging pests, plant-damaging pests and species linked to pets:
- Mosquitoes, which breed in any pocket of standing water: planter saucers, neglected fountains, gutters and forgotten containers. Beyond the nuisance, they can transmit disease.
- Wasps and hornets that build nests in eaves, walls and shrubs, creating a sting risk, especially for allergic people, children and pets.
- Ants that form colonies in the lawn, planters and pathways, and that sometimes invade the inside of the home.
- Ticks and fleas in lawns and shaded areas, a common problem in gardens with pets and a risk to their health and the family's.
- Plant pests such as aphids, mealybugs, mites and snails, which damage foliage and weaken ornamental plants.
Specific risks
In a garden the risk is twofold. On one hand, public health: mosquitoes that can transmit disease, wasp stings and the presence of ticks and fleas that affect people and pets. On the other, a management risk: applying products indiscriminately can harm bees and other pollinators that are essential to the garden and its surroundings. The challenge is to control what causes harm without destroying what benefits the environment.
Our approach
We apply Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with an approach that respects pollinators and the environment. The first step is to eliminate breeding sites: identify and drain the standing water where mosquitoes reproduce and correct the conditions that favor each pest. We favor targeted methods —nest removal, localized treatment and source control— over blanket applications, and we choose products and application timing that minimize the impact on bees and beneficial wildlife.
We back this up with monitoring and garden management recommendations that reduce pest presence over time. When treatment is needed, we use products registered with COFEPRIS and in line with NOM-256-SSA1-2012, applied with judgment to protect people, pets and the pollinators that keep the garden's ecosystem healthy.
