Pest control for Storerooms

A storage and distribution warehouse runs on constant movement: inbound, outbound, cross-dock and varied merchandise that changes every week. That flow opens and closes doors all day and makes it easy for pests to enter with the load, the pallets or the packaging. Unlike a single-product store, here different goods — food, packaging, supplies — coexist, and each attracts its own problem. That is why pest control in a distribution warehouse must focus on entry points and on the traceability of what is received.

Most common pests in distribution warehouses

The continuous traffic of cargo shapes the pest profile of a distribution warehouse:

  • Rodents entering through open docks, curtains and pallets, hiding within the merchandise in transit.
  • Stored-product pests — weevils, moths and beetles — arriving inside infested packaging from other centers.
  • Birds nesting in the steel structure and roofs of the bay, fouling pallets and aisles.
  • Cockroaches and flies associated with waste, packing areas and loading zones.

Risks to the operation

In a distribution warehouse, a pest that enters with one shipment can leave for several customers before it is detected, multiplying the problem. That means rejections at destination, returns and damage to the trust of those who receive your goods. Rodents gnaw packaging and wiring, with a fire risk in a high-throughput bay, and an audit finding can suspend the warehouse as a fulfillment point for a chain. Controlling the entry points means controlling the risk of spread.

Standards and audits

We apply NOM-256-SSA1-2012 with products registered with COFEPRIS. For warehouses handling food or consumer goods we deliver a documented program with stored-product pest monitoring, bird control, trend records and traceability, aligned with HACCP- and BRCGS-type audits. The documentation — station maps, logs and per-visit reports — stays available for customer audits, which in logistics tend to be frequent.

How we work

We work with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) focused on access control. We place numbered perimeter monitoring stations, reinforce exclusion at curtains, dock seals and vents, install light traps for flying insects near docks and pheromone traps to detect pests arriving with the load, and apply bird control on the structure. We add receiving-inspection recommendations to stop infestations before they enter the bay. Everything is documented per visit.
