Pest control for Plants

A process plant — water treatment, bottling, chemical or power generation — combines moisture, heat, piping and underground galleries that offer ideal shelter for pests. Unlike an office, here pests do more than annoy: they can alter quality parameters, damage instrumentation and threaten process continuity. That is why pest control in a plant must be built into operating and safety procedures, not handled as an isolated service.

Most common pests in plants

Because of their moisture and their network of ducts and manholes, plants have their own pest profile:

  • Rodents moving through sumps, pipe galleries and manholes, where they find water and permanent shelter.
  • Cockroaches in pump rooms, drains and areas with constant humidity.
  • Mosquitoes and flies associated with water bodies, pits and treatment areas.
  • Birds nesting on elevated structures, tanks and roofs, fouling equipment and instrumentation.

Risks to the operation

In a plant, a pest can translate into product or treated-water quality problems, with the risk of breaching regulatory limits. Rodents gnaw control and instrumentation wiring, causing faulty readings, equipment failures and a fire risk in panels. Bird droppings on platforms and railings are also a sanitary and safety hazard for staff. Any of these events can lead to an unplanned shutdown and to findings during environmental or quality audits.

Standards and audits

We apply NOM-256-SSA1-2012 and use products registered with COFEPRIS, with technical and safety data sheets available for the plant's health-and-safety team. In plants linked to food or beverages we add a documented program with monitoring and traceability, compatible with HACCP- and BRCGS-type audits. All information — station maps, logs and trend records — is kept in order to respond to internal, customer or authority audits.

How we work

We work with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) adapted to process areas. We start with an inspection that respects the plant's access and lockout protocols, then install numbered perimeter monitoring stations, reinforce exclusion at manholes and pipe penetrations, implement bird control with physical methods on critical structures, and follow up on a visit schedule. We prioritize physical, low-chemical-impact methods so we do not interfere with the processes.
